What Are Some Natural Repellants That Help Against Bed Bugs?

Natural repellents generally are not useful, there is little you can buy of sprays and poisons in the domestic range, in the grocery store or the drug store or the hardware store. You can get creams for lice, collars and injections for fleas and even cream for crabs, but as bed bugs do not live on your but deep inside your furniture there is no spray or cream to kill them effectively. There are some methods you can use to kill them off, however.

If you are dealing with an infestation or have suspicions thereof, contact Biehn Weed and Pest Control  for a fast and effective complete eradication.

Sunlight

UV rays are death no many insects, not just bed bugs but bed bugs are far more affected by it. For this reason, they prefer to live in mattresses so they can come to the surface when they know we are sleeping and drink our blood but then escape to the middle of the mattress to evade the dangerous UV rays of the sun. If you take your mattress and clothes out of the house and put them in direct, boiling and high UV sunlight for a straight 12 hours, turning everything every hour, you may well manage to get rid of your bed bugs. This is risky and difficult obviously, moving everything made of cloth outside and having the space to do it if you are in an apartment this could be entirely impossible but if you have a house with a large back yard it maybe your best option without hiring professional exterminators to come in and spray, with a five-hour vacancy it can be frustrating, but it is far more fast, more effective and with less work to do on your part.

Cold

Bed bugs are dramatically affected by the cold. Freezing temperatures will kill them in 24 hours, including their eggs. This must be a freezer set to maximum or a deep freeze that you can fill up with lots of stuff. This will help get rid of bed bugs in clothing, but not in your mattress. Sadly there is no way to freeze your mattress without taking it to a walk-in freezer like the kind that is had by large restaurants. However, you could always rent one out and get a moving van and transport it all yourself. This is a lot of work and not a great way to solve the problem.

Extreme Heat

Bed bugs are not capable of handling extreme heat. This is a method that while very expensive is often used by the wealthy to kill off bedbugs in a large house or estate. This is not a common method and it takes 24 hours and can damage your home permanently like warping wood but it is quick and only has to be done once for the whole day. Trying to use heat at home with domestic tools will not work well as cloth burns in the oven or when exposed to fire and bed bugs need very high heat to die along with their eggs, so a heat gun is not going to do it.

Commercial Professionals

Call the professionals, they can do two treatments, with only a five-hour vacancy each, using pesticides and boiling steam they can kill the bed bugs, but not the eggs, however by coming two weeks later and doing the treatment again they can kill the hatched eggs while still in their moulting nymph stage and will permanently resolve the issue.
